I have never actually read the book version, just the slightly fragmented one in Unfinished Tales and the shorter chapter in The Silmarillion.

i recall that in the UT Hurin is said to make a lot of bad/hard puns that confused Turin a lot? hahahaha like, he’d speak a kind of Sindarin Túrin was not used to, and Túrin wouldn’t quite get him, while Morwen would always be pretty straightforward? I think it was like this? This marries perfectly well with Adenydd’s headcanon that Morwen taught Túrin Taliska; I like thinking he felt more at ease in this language :d (plus obviously Morwen is not one to make puns) (omg can you imagine húrin making a joke and laughing alone while morwen is all like “….”)

I dont recall if that is in the CoH as well, but in that book Túrin has a loving relationship with Húrin at least? He gets soooooooooooo excited when Húrin puts him on the table and calls him heir iirc, its super super cute and now i wanna read that again hahahaha aww….

Mentioning Adenydd again, I’m so sure Morwen (and Rian as well) have some sort of PTSD from the fall of Dor-lomin… like, I know Tolkien doesn’t ever use medical/academic terms, but from when he says Morwen’s humor was always dark because of the shadow of her old homeland, and then Rian completely breaking down, losing her shit and wandering alone and pregnant in the woods , I think this is a valid interpretation?

also woooow now you got me realllllyyyy interested in what the Edain do when their lords/lieges/chieftains pass away, and their funerary rites in general!?!? I”m sure they must be extremely different from anything the elves have ever seen at any rate! WHAT A COOL POINT YOU MAKE omgg, if you have any headcanons regarding this i would be extremely interested in reading them??

I agree it was a mix of both, I suppose… Aeron keeps telling himself over and over that now he’s no longer afraid of Euron, but that’s precisely how he describes his behaviour in the chapter following the kingsmoot :(( And then he ends up rationalizing that it wan’t a proper kingsmoot, that his God wanted something else, it was the enemy, etc… augh, yes, poor thing :((

My main thoughts have always been: What if Oro stayed the longest in Doriath in the first place?

Actually that is my headcanon - maybe he visited his father from time to time, I think he did, but since he and Thingol are said in the children of Húrin to keep a very updated correspondance, and Thingol has enough influence over him to, even during the very dark days of Nargothrond, convince him to help Túrin’s band of bandits with provisions, I think they must be very close?

We know all the Arafinweans were guests in Menegroth at some point (I don’t recall if we can be sure about Aegnor, but would be weird for his whole family to go visit except himself?), so I keep thinking that maybe Oro clicked well with the people there. I think… it was paradife-loft, though now I’m not sure, who said he probably had clicked well with the Sindar, and I ended up adopting that headcanon and imagining he married a Sinda as well, who was Findu’s mom…

I suppose the main problem here is whether you consider Orodreth to be a kid or not - since I imagine he had been an adult for some time already when they crossed the ice, I dont see much of a problem with him not being close to his father all the time.

I also never really imaginated he had a bitter relationship with his father - rather I always,.. ok this might not agree at all with you own headcanon so I don’t know hahaha, but sometimes I wonder if Angrod felt a bit self-conscious about how both Finrod and Galadriel were more well-spoken and more gifted at philosophy and such things?

I know you also have this feeling that Finrod cast a very uncomfortable shadow over his brothers; my own impression is that some of this feeling passed from Angrod to Orodreth a little.

IDK I rambled a lot. Let me know your opinions, or if you really don’t care about debating this, then sorry ahahaha… (or if you want to talk about how you feel about the relationship between Angrod and Orodreth, I’m also super interested in that!)

Summary: In the waning Years of the Trees, Celebrimbor is born, and the Silmarils are created. Forty years later, Fëanor is banished from Tirion. Little enough seems to change for Curufin’s family in the interim.

Notes: I think I’m starting a trend of titling fic featuring Celebrimbor and Hyellindë after Rasputina songs. I don’t know how I feel about this.

its just, there would be so many! we dont even know if those 3 houses of the edain were nomads and settled down only after crossing the mountains? It seems at least that mortal woman can be warriors as well, taking from Haleth… they had music and knew how to make fire, they were clothed, I’m not sure they were polygamic but I would bet on it… regarding their beliefs, I think you can take a good notion from Andreth’s speech with Finrod…

I have a headcanon that the house of Hador favored using axes (because of Húrin’s last stand and Tuor using one as well), but I’m not sure about anything else about their weapons…. I’m sure they adopted the swords of their elven lords, but I imagine they carried axes into battle just in case hahaha. like maybe the sword is a more lordly weapon, but the axe is their cultural one, and the one they use best in actual wars? (i have a surprisingly detailed headcanon regarding Huor, Húrin, Tuor and axes tbh). Anyway the house of Marach seems to be a deal more battle-oriented the other two?

I’m not sure if women have a disvantge when it comes to the inheritance, or if they are seen as equal heirs? I would say that only happens to the house of Haleth, but I can’t recall which families ever had a female firstborn to make a proper statement. idk sorry, i feel like this post was a total waste hahahaa… Women have an important position in the house of Beor though, as they can become wise women who keep the traditions and culture of their people, such as Andreth. i do imagine they later adopt a LOT of the elve’s asthetics, in their clothing and hair and jewels and stuff?

aah! I dont think the house of Beor has horses, neither the house of Haleth, not sure for the house of Marach but I’d say they didn’t use them either. This i imagine mostly because the house of Beor seems to be on foot when Finrod finds them?

Im not sure they have a writing system, hence the importance of wise women to the house of Beor. I’m not sure this tradition also happens in the other houses but I like to headcanon it does, Except in the house of Haleth it can be either a man or woman

ah ok I have a headcanon for the people in Brethil! which might come from their earlier time! I imagine they have a lot of work division: every day the people who stay home gather in the same house and they all help with the cooking, some people help with the stitching and making clothes and wear, the woodworkers gather in the same house and work together… like, i think its a very community oriented culture, though families live in their own individual houses, but since the people of brethil are supposed to live in small separated villages, i always imagined they would do a lot of things together as a community as well :)

Aeron hated Euron so much and was 600% convinced he could never be the king, he was completely armed and armored against Euron, and then, in the final moment, he ends up crowning Euron, docile as obedient as he ever was to his brother

its so sickening idk goddammit, i really like Aeron a lot and i feel sorry for him in this :( (thought i admit it was a bit funny in the beginning of this chapter, but then i got sad)
